Default MODELISATION OF SEA WATER DENSITY CHANGES

Hi all!

We need some advice on how to deal with density changes in the simulation of effluent discharges in sea water. Does anyone know the UDF to model the density of sea water as a function of temperature and salt concentration?

Thanks a lot!

(1) The technical support at Fluent told me that a User-Defined-Function (UDF) can be used to define e.g. a temperature and concentration dependent density, as long as the density variations within the fluid are small. (2) Enable a User-defined-scalar for the salt concentration and solve the heat equation for the temperature. (3) The appropriate UDF for the calculation of density, C_R(c,t), is the DEFINE_PROPERTY. In this function you can easily get access to the temperature and the user-defined-scalar values (salt conc.) in all cells, see the UDF manual. (4) The Sea Water Equation of State is defined in UNESCO International Equation of State (IES 80), see e.g. http://fermi.jhuapl.edu/denscalc.html, the matlab routines on http://www.marine.csiro.au/~morgan/seawater/ , might also be helpful as a reference when you define your UDF.
