Plotting "in-plane" in 3-D

Hi,

Question about plotting velocity vectors in 3-d domains. I am plotting vectors on a "plane slice" through a 3-d domain. There is a vector option "in plane" that you can use. Does this option just set the component of velocity that is normal to the plane to zero? What if you are plotting vectors on a curved 2-dimensional surface? Anybody know the answer to this?
