Default How to simulate ...Interface..???

Hi all,

For open channel flow, the top surface is an air-water interface. What Boundary condition is to be set to the top surface? I mean what parameters should be given as input for proper simulation of the interface? And how to do it???

I had set "Interface" B.C. in GAMBIT. While setting the BCs in Fluent5, in "Boundary conditions" panel there is nothing to set for "Interface". How does FLUENT treat the Interface?

I tried to search Fluent as well as Gambit Manuals but could not get any information on it.

Please help..

If you want to calculate water flow with the air interface, proper boundary condition is 'symmetry' because shear force is negligible. If you want to calculate two-phase flow(air-water flow), you should use the VOF model.

Doesn't symmetry assume that there is water on the other side of the interface ?
