Transformed 2D geometry is neither 2D nor 3D!!

Hei friends,

I find the following problem with defining dimension in Fluent to a transformed 2D mesh from Gambit.

I want to solve a 2D problem to generate a surface profile for a 3D problem later. I made the 2D surface and transformed the same so as to make the orientation of the surface is the same as that it has in the 3D geometry. But when I tried to read the mesh to Fluent I encountered the error messages as follows:

- When I tried to read the mesh to a 2ddp solver, the error message reads as follows: Error: File has wrong dimensions(3D) Error object:#f

- When I tried to read the mesh into a 3ddp solver, it sends the following error message: Error: Fluent received fatal signal(Access_Violation)

Later I tried to test with meshes from Gambit, made in the planes other than xy-plane. I had similar error messages.

How is it possible to read a 2D mesh which is transformed from its xy-plane?

You are making the mistake of specying boundary condition as face instead of edge in 2d geometry and zone (fluid/solid) should be for faces not volumes.

This is what I guess.

Please check that out and let me know.

Dear Rajeev Kumar,

I have not committed the mistake you have pointed out.

You can detect this phenomena in Fluent6 yourself. In Gambit, create a 2D surface. Transform it by rotating it out of the plane it is created in. Mesh it. Specify the boundary and continuum types as you suggest. I hope, you can observe what I wants to point at.
