Default Input Geometry from Ideas to Gambit

I have a 3d geometry needed to inport from Ideas to Gambit. And there seem two ways to do that: 1. in Ideas, export the geometry by using IGES (*.igs),then in Gambit, open it by selecting 'IGES...' from 'File-->Import'. But the geometry is not so good, (at least I don't think it is useful).

2. I got some ideas from the 'users_guide' of Gambit, and it is said a I-Deas faceted geometry needed. But I have no idea about how to get this kind of files in ideas.

Could any one tell me which way should I choose to go, how to inprove the geometry when inported into Gambit? Thanks in advance.

when you import the geometry in IGES format it brings only the surface information into GAMBIT. So its better to use STEP format into GAMBIT compared to IGES. Moreover, its better to bring solid information into GAMBIT instead of surfaces.

As you know GAMBIT works on ACIS kernel. It(ACIS) uses tolerance limit of 1e-6. So, if you know that you are going to do a CFD analysis, please set the tolerance as 1e-6 in IDEAS while creating the geometry and export as STEP file. This is the best way to get the geometry into GAMBIT.

Thanks,

rk.
