boundary layer estimation

Hi all,

I am trying to model the drag on an infinite length circular cylinder for Reynold's number in the range of 1e6 to 1e9. I am currently doing a 2D model. I need some ideas on how I can approximate the thickness of the laminar and turbulent boundary layer so that I can generate a better grid near the cylinder.

Diameter of Cylinder = 24m Flow speed = 0.055m/s - 6.489m/s Fluid = salt solution The current value of the first grid point adopted is y = 0.01m

My results are approx. 30% - 80% off for the range of Re. no. tested. Pls advice on what is wrong and what formula can I use to approximate the b_layer thickness.

Thank you...
