Grid generation for a tee junction

Hi,
anyone got a good strategy for meshing at tee junction of two pipes? The two pipes I'm trying to mesh have very different diameters, on is 1.6mm in diameter and the other is 24.4mm in diameter. The samler pipe is 1" long, the bigger 6" long, and the tee is located 2" from the end of the bigger pipe. Due to the large difference in diameter volume meshing seems to fail, and trying to use boundary layers does not work either, gambit gives up and tells me that 3D BL only work for flat surfaces. I'm using GAMBIT 2.0.4 Any suggestions? Cheers, -Paal |

You can try to mesh your T as follows:
- Create the two pipes, but don't unite them. - Split the bigger pipe in three parts using a brick of rectangular cross section. The height of the brick should be at least equalt to the lenght of the bigger pipe. The side lenght of its face perpendicular to the smaller pipe should be between pipe diameters. The other lenght should be at least equal to the larger pipe diameter. - Unite the central part of the biggest pipe, which you obtained from the splitting procedure, with the smallest pipe. Now the decomposed domain can be meshed using Cooper tool. Hi ap |

You don't follow my advice read papers, it is not painful and you will stop bargain for help. This time I am back in my office and I will give you exactly the name of the paper that already has done what you are thinking to do.
