steady/unsteady combustion???

Hi,

I notice that the turbulent combustion tutorial in the fluent manual uses a steady solver.

I'm still new to Fluent and CFD but if the flow is turbulent shouldn't the solver be unsteady?

Can anyone enlightment me??

Cheers

John.

Re: steady/unsteady combustion???

Hi!

The problem is not in turbulent flow. Laminar flow can also be unsteady (for example von Karman wortex streep). Generally the best way to do it is to make unsteady calculation and then integrate it. But this takes a lot of time which you usually do not have. So if your problem does not have any significant pressure pulsations or similar unsteady features you can simplify it by doing steady calculation.
