Default three-phase separator

Hi everybody,

I am trying to simulate a three phase flow in a oil/water/gas separator using VoF model. I managed to fill the volume of the separator with oil, water and gas at the desirable level. The boundary conditions are a velocity_inlet of the mixture and three outflows for each phase. However, when i run the simulation the computer is crashed or i receive a msg that a divergence detected in amg solver and the iterations stop. Do you know what kind of msg is that? Is there anybody who can see what i am doing wrong? Finally, are there any tutorials using VOF for more than 2 phases?

Thank you very much. I hope someone will reply to this and guide me. I appreciate it!

Konstantinos, I want to give you a series of suggestions, however, I will stop with a few:

1) If you are doing 3d, start from 2d 2) divergence could be bcos: i) Poor meshing ii) Time step too high ... 3) FLUENT vof demands patience I mean lot of patience 4) Never try steady state from the beginning

I am stopping here.

Do you mean that steady state is more difficult? The problem is that i have to run a steady state case for my separator.

Hi Dr,

I have done some steady state simulations but it seems that the phases dont want to be separated from the mixture even if i use the gravity in the Operating conditions. Do you know if i should assign gravity settling forces in each face? Thank you in advance
