Symmetry and boundary conditions

Hi,

I have values for mass flow rate for flow in a pipe, from which I calculate the inlet velocity.

I'm using symmetry, to reduce computation time, therefore i have half the domain of the pipe.

My question is - do I apply the full, calculated, inlet velocity as the boundary condition or do I halve the inlet velocity, because of the half pipe, and then double the values of the results?

Thanks in advance,

Eric.

Re: Symmetry and boundary conditions

Hi,

no reason to half the inlet velocity, as you are using a symmetry and indicated it in your BCs.

cheers

I agree with David.

You have to specify the real velocity inlet.

boundary condition (symmetry vs periodic doubt)

Dear friends,
i am doing 3D wing analysis, i have doubt on boundary conditions in fluent ie both symmetry and periodic, anybody have the answer please let me know briefly, for what kind of purpose to use symmetry & periodic boundary conditions, please tell any example with problem.
