separation and stream function

Default separation and stream function

While working on one of the tutorials, I found out that if you plot Velocity contours with stream function option (uncheck filled option) you do not get contour lines where there is separation.

I think that is quite cool but I dont understand the physics behind it - does this mean that stream function can not be calculated or is zero at the points or regions of separation?
