DNS

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have heard in the past that FLUENT offers some functions that are not advertised or that are not accessible from the GUI (text commands only). Does anyone know if FLUENT offers "unadvertised" DNS capabilites? Failing that I suppose an LES could be used with a very small grid. Does anyone know if Gambit has a limit on grid/mesh size? Or has anyone used a very small mesh before?

Thanks, Tim.

As far as I know, the "unadvertised" turbulence models are some low-Re k-e models and the detached Eddy (DES)model. Not DNS.

I don't believe there is a minimum cell limit in Gambit.

hi there,

you don't need to switch anyhting on to do DNS, just run a transient laminar case with sufficient spatial and temporal resolution... requires large meshes. at the 2003 Benelux Fluent UGM there was a talk about DNS with Fluent. maybe you can get more info from the Fluent guys in Belgium - http://www.fluent.be

good luck
