Default Problem Patching Water Depth (2-D)

I am trying to patch a water depth in my model (2-D). I have done adapt->region for the area I want to patch and clicked mark (not adapt). When I display it, it shows exactly the region I wanted. The two phases are water and air, and I am doing VOF sine waves using a UDF. Air is my primary phase, is this the right choice? To the point now: When I patch the region, I then try to display it in Display->contours, Phases->Volume Fraction->water/air, it shows water covering the entire model and air covering nothing, instead of having water in the lower region that I adapted, and air in the top. How do I fix this?

Probablyu you're doing something wrong in the marking/patching process.

Do like the following:

1) Set your models and initilize your case, with air everywhere.

2) Adapt->Mark the region you want.

3) In the Patch panel, choose the "hexahedronXXX" (if structured grid) zone, then select water as phase, select volume fraction and specify its value, then patch.

4) Check contours.

Hope this works.

Thank you for the advice, but no luck. I think I know my problem. I tried what you said (which is what I basically had done last time). Only part of my mesh is structures, and the rest is triangular. Could this be the reason it is not working? Do you know what I have to do in this case?

Maybe that's the problem, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, if you want to easily patch a zone, there's another way.

In GAMBIT you can give a name to the fluid zone you want to patch. Just split your domain, keeping geometry connections, in order to define the zone you want to patch.

Mesh your domain and then create a fluid zone selecting the zone you want to patch and give it a name.

In FLUENT patch panel you just have to select that zone and apply the value you need.

Hope this helps.
