mesh adaption memory limit

I seem to have reached the limit of mesh adaption, I can adapt by any parameter 2 or 3 times, but if I try to adapt further the following error message occurs:

Warning: ST_Realloc: out of memory. Error: Resize_Storage_On_Thread: Out of memory. Error Object: ()

The machine has 4 GB of hard memory and the virtual memory has been set to its maximum.

Is this a limit of physical memory whereby an increase would solve the problem, or is there a set limit within Fluent of the number of cells that can be used? Thanks.

Re: mesh adaption memory limit

hi,

i have encountered the same problem. Maybe it is due to the fact that the gradient where you want to define your region adaption is so steep compared to the rest of the region that Fluent needs to increase its number of cells drastically to be able to follow on this.

Even though there is the error message you can see the number of cells the adaptive function has created by going through grid->check and you will see how much it has increased.

Remember that you can use around 100 000 cells for 100 MB of RAM. So with 4 GB you can use 4 millions cells.

i hope this helps
