Hi all,

I see that in the FLUENT manual, premixed combustion has a limitation that it cannot model the detonations. Can someone tell me why this is so? Thank you very much.

The Premixed model assumes a very slow moving laminar flame (deflagration) that is corrugated by the turbulence so that it has an enhanced turbulent flame speed. It is not available with the coupled solver.

Detonations are supersonic flames where the premixture is ignited by heat released behind the shock wave.

Hello Cg,

Can I solve for compressible flows using the segregated solver but with viscous heating on?

If I can do that, then I dont need a coupled solver to model detonation. I can settle for a segregated solver and to account for compressibility effects I could include viscous heating terms in the energy equation( I am totally not clear with this though). So the fact that detonation is a compressible flow phenomena should not affect me right?

I guess my thoughts are scattered. If it is not asking too much, I would like to dicuss this with you by mail if you could mail me. Thanks a lot for your replies. They are very useful.

Arun

Hello everyone,

Can anyone suggest me a good document/book to start with simulation in gas turbine engine (combustion chamber).

I am planning to do the post processing in FLUENT. Is Openfoam software better than Fluent for combustion purpose?

Also, I intend to use C language to develop the code. Does Fluent take code written in Fortran. And which one is better? Fortran or C?

Please help me as I'm a beginner in this field.
