I would like to know whether it is possible to create a sub surface (a 3D-surface out of an existing surface) for calculation purposes (eg calculate the average heat transfer coefficient for a particular zone on a surface).

Hi,
A surface is 2D and that you can create in Fluent using Surface --> Plane in the main menu. Arun |

A surface is not necessarily 2D but can be 3D too. A 2D surface is usually called a plane.
I have a 3D surface from which I need to extract data out of part of it. Therefore I was thinking to create a sub-surface from it. Is this posssible? |

Hi Chris,
You can try Tecplot where you can create sub-zones like however you want. I haven't tried it in Fluent. Thanks Arun |

Hi Chris,
Import your data into Tecplot (File --> Import). Then create a sub-zone using Data -->Create zone-->Subzone. Select your I, J and K to create the subzone. Now you can compute your required value using equations in this zone. I don't know if this could be done in Fluent itself. I think Fluent should let you do this. Do experiment the Surface menu. Good luck. Arun |

Hello Friends, This can be done in FLUENT using the option surface. In gui Surface> Isosurface so on and so forth. Let me know if u are not clear with it. Bye Podila
