Hi,

I need an advice about the language to use in UDF for modelling a PEM fuel cell: C++ or FORTRAN ???

Thank you very much for your responses!!!

This question comes up alot - check the previous posts. I am modeling PEMFC's. If you want to create UDF's in fluent you need to learn C. If you are using CFX I believe you need to use Fortran. C is the more powerful language from a programmers point of view, but fortran is still very widely used in engineering circles. But you don't really need to learn much of either to write subroutines for the CFD codes.

Thanks for your quick response!!!

I think that I'll use C language since I'm a new FLUENT's user and I've learned C++ in a computer course. I wouldn't be indiscreet, but which are you using for modelling PEMFC??

I am using Fluent and C to model fuel cells, but they aren't hydrogen fuel cells. If you are interested Fluent will sell you a Fuel cell bolt on that will save you alot of the work writing your own code.

If you have already learned C you will not really need to spend much time learning it again. Start working through the UDF manual with fluent 6 and you will start to pick it up pretty quickly.

Hi Andrew!

About bolt(is it a specific compiler for fluent???): I'm working on MANDRAKE 9.0 LINUX SYSTEM with VIM and it seems OK.

Thank you for all your interesting messages!!!

I have no idea what bolt is, sorry. I have gcc installed under red hat and that works fine for me.
