Hello all,

is there a difference between making a mesh from a virtual and real volume?

1)It's better to create a mesh using real volume. 2)Real entity has its own geometrical information. 3)Virtual entity refer the geometrical information of a real entity.

4)Last time, I created a domain that contains virtual entity in Gambit 2.0. 5)When I was doing some booleen operation, the output was not what I expected. 6)I solved this problem by creating a domain using real entities.

so there is no much difference between making a solution using a mesh either created by a virtual or real geometry?

Because I built up a geometry and I can't make it real anyhow..

It's better if you can use real geometry, but this isn't always possible. Like Lam said, the virtual geometry references the underlying real geometry, which is what can cause issues. Geometry modifications (i.e. boolean operations and volume split operations) shouldn't be done on virtual geometry, and in most cases Gambit won't allow you to do it anyway. But virtual geometry was created to aid in meshing. You can still get a good mesh from virtual geometry, but you have to pay closer attention to it. Check your face meshes to make sure there are no highly skewed or inversed faces. Watch areas of complex curvature and make sure the mesh looks reasonable. As long as you pay attention to what Gambit is creating for face meshes you should be able to create a successful volume mesh.

Good luck, Jason
