Stirred tank reactor
I would like to simulate a stirred tank reactor with a rushton turbine using fluent and gambit. Did anyone try this before? If so, how did you do it? I generated and meshed the reactor building blocks in gambit and then assembled them using the tmerge command. I modified the grid in fluent using the separate, merge, and fuse panels but everytime I fuse face zones I get an error message saying 'SEGMENTATION VIOLATION'. Can anyone offer me a better strategy?

I work with stirred tank simulation. The first thing you have to think is that you have two zones: one moving zone (with the impeller) and a static zone (with the tank wall). I usually build the mesh of the two zones in one simple Gambit file, but take care because between these zones you have to build a interface (it means that the volumes of the moving zone must not be connected with the volumes of the static zone).

In Fluent all you have to do is unite the interfaces and define a moving scheme to the moving zone (MRF or sliding mesh).

Thanks for your advise. Can you tell me which meshing scheme you use in gambit? How do you construct the turbine and the baffles : with volumes or with faces?

I usually use the map meshing scheme. I prefer to build the turbine with volumes, but just with faces still a good aproximation.
