Trying to define a velocity inlet (boundary layer) profile for the simple case of flow over a flat plate. Fluent has stated "reading profile file...", but has yet to move past this point. The file format is correct, is there a specific file extension (*.ext) that must be used? or is there another rather simple issue stopping fluent from reading the file? or is it a matter of time?

It should be in the form "filename.prof" this is what I use.

No, it doesn't need a file extension and it shouldn't take that long if your inlet is not extremely big. How many different values (velocity, turbulence etc) did you write onto the profile file and how many surfaces did you choose?

Thanks for the help. The problem was in the *.prof file itself. Fluent didn't like the name given to the profile before the "point ##" and there also needed to be parenthesis () around the entire text of profile coordinates. The boundary layer profile file needed some manipulation before fluent would accept it. So instead of reading the file it just froze at the part it didn't like.
