Default Illegal segmentation error in gambit

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to create a 3-d domain geometry in Gambit and I keep getting an error and Gambit closes out. I created my 3-d car geometry and then the 3-d flow domain and when I try to subtract the car volume from the flow domain volume, Gambit gets stuck. After some time I get an illegal segmentation error and then Gambit closes. Inside the unix shell that I am running Gambit this error also pops up...

Received exception: SIGBUS (bus error)

Please send the GAMBIT.171222/jou and GAMBIT.171222/trn files to your local Fluent office or distributor. Also send a message including any relevant errors or warnings you see above in this window. You may wish to delete the temporary directory GAMBIT.171222 after sending the above files.

Does anyone know what this error means,so I can have an idea of how to fix it. Thank you for your time.

Rob

I've had this problem happen when the geometry is too complicated for Gambit. Did you import your 3-d car, or did you actually make it in Gambit? I've seen imported geometry do this, but I've never created anything in Gambit that caused this.

If the geometry's imported... go back to the original CAD program (Pro/E, Solidworks, whatever...) and create your control volume in there. If you can't do this... try healing the geometry before subtracting it.

Another thing I noticed... sometimes saving your file helps. I've done some work on a file... had it crash... got back to the same exact point just before it crashed, saved it, and it worked fine.

Hope this helps, and goodluck Jason
