Default MARS DUST TRAJECTORY ANALYSIS

Hello CFD Users,

I was wondering if it was possible to obtain particle trajectories of a small soil sample due to high wind speeds. I know Fluent has Eulerian and Lagrangian models, but I did not know if it was capable of this. Can I use the DPM model?

Please let me know. Thank you. -Manish

Hi,

I recently did such a trajectory calculation for a sand blaster nozzle and it was pretty accurate. We compared it with a 1-D flow model that I had to write a small C++ code to do just that. So, yes Fluent can do this. You can use each of the above models in various ways. The basic thing the differentiates them is wheather 1) you are calculating the flow and the trajectory simultaneously or 2) first calculating the flow field and releasing the particles after. You also have the choice to include the effect of the presence of each particle on each other and on the flow field itself. This depends on the size of the particles and the DENSITY of each particle, shape, number of particles, homogenity...etc. I can email u my stuff if it helps.

Hi Melaku,

Thank you so very much. I do not have much experience with this type of Fluent model, and I can use all the help that I can. If it is not too much of a bother, do you think you can send whatever information that you have about this area.

It is quite amazing to see how powerful Fluent is, but the catch is understanding how it works. By the way, I developed accurate results for the supersonic flow. Thank you for all your help!

Thanks again. Hope to hear from you soon.

You can just email me at my email address if you would like.
