Porous media

Could you tell me how to define a domain as a porous media in Fluent?

The easiest way is to define a separate zone in GAMBIT for the porous part of your system and to call it with a different name.

Then, import the mesh in FLUENT, set up your case, and specify that zone as a porous one in the boundary condition panel.

Sure. In GAMBIT, click on the Operation button (Green cube), then choose in the Zones panel, the Specify Continuum types (again the button with the green cube).

Then, ust select the volume (in 3D cases) or the face (in 2D cases) that you want to define as porous. Define it as FLUID and give it a name. Click Apply and it's done,

I'm just curious ap, Doesn't gambit do this automatically when you export the mesh. I remember seeing something like, "A default unspecified continuum was created" in the transcript window. So, when we read the case into Fluent, we could select the zone as Fluid or 'Porus media' there?

Yes. But if you want to call a part of your domain with another name, to apply a source term or a different condition, you have to do it manually.

GAMBIT just create one Fluid zone for your whole domain if you don't do it, and it calls it "fluid".
