Un-even Periodic Interface Problem

I have created a model that is very similar to the 2-D sliding mesh tutorial that is in help files. The problem I have is that the stator periodicity is 1.92in to the rotor's periodicity of 1.15in so that the two don't line up. When I create the interface and run the stationary mesh to get an initial guess going (like in the tutorial) the excess face of the stator dumps the flowing air into null space and the velocities go up ten fold at this edge, basically a meaningless model. I realize that the un-even periodicity means that the periodically created stationary rotors will not have the same result as each other but I can't even get the unsteady sliding mesh model to run properly for the reasons above. According to the tutorial you should be able to create an interface with two surfaces of differing size but this does not appear to be the case from what I am seeing here.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Are the boundaries normal to the direction of travel linked and defined as periodic in Gambit?
