f_in non premixed combustion

hello! I would have information on how interpreting graphs of species concentration in function of the mixture fraction (f), what does really "f" means?? is it a quantity defined for all the mixture (burnt, fresh) or for each species??

Re: f_in non premixed combustion

Hello,

the mixture fraction is defined as f=(Y-Y_o)/(Y_f-Y_o), as reported also in the Fluent User's Guide. Y is, e.g., the mass fraction, 'o' indicates the oxidizer and 'f' the fuel.

It indicates the global composition of the mixture, it is 1 for the fuel stream and 0 for the oxidizer stream, and has a value between 0 and 1 where a mixture of the two streams is present.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Ale
