Fluid Displacement help

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to do a very simple 3D analysis of one fluid displacing another. Could someone please point me in the direction of where to start as i can't seem to figure it out. Is it to do with the 'mixing planes' option? Or do i have to just entire two sets of boundary conditions???? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks for your time. |

you may try mixture model for this purpose. i do not think you need to use mixing planes option. i have tried a 2D displacement problem using mixture model. yes, you will have to use two sets of boundary conditions for two "phases".

Hi there,
Did you mean 'two phases' when i produce the mesh in GAMBIT, or do i specify these phases in fluent itself? Thank you for your help! g. |

gambit meshing will not need specification of phases. you will need phase specification in FLUENT as primary and secondary. Primary will be the bulkier of the two by volume fraction. you may be required to use patch if you want to restrict a phase in a specific region to start with.

hi swarup im also planning to do a two phase problem usinf vof scheme for a displacemnet vessel ,can u give a brief guidance

Hi Satya, I have not treated VOF in detail anytime. so my help may not be directly useful. I will tell some general things though.
you should use VOF in case you want to track interface between two phases. VOF model is unsuitable for phases considered interpenetrating. otherwise,you can try multiphase mixture model? more help will be available in FLUENT manuals. can you tell me more about the problem? sorry for late response by the way.
