Default periodic BC question

In defining two faces as periodic, Fluent asks the user to specify the flow direction. The user's manual states that the "flow direction must be parallel to the periodic translation direction." Does anyone know what the "periodic translation direction" is?

In my setup, I'm basically modeling a box, with two sets of periodic BCs and an inlet and outlet.

Thanks!

If eg. the x-axis is your main flow direction then the x-axis has to be your "periodic translation direction". --> periodicity in x-direction

Sorry for my poor English...
