3D swirler modelling
 

hi all, I have a bit of a problem with 3D swirler modelling. I have actually done most of it in gambit, then tried to apply the BCs. But the problem is that Fluent isnt recognising the side-tip of the swirler blades.....it is skipping them.

SO i tried to specify the total swirler volume as a solid-continuum, but it isnt shown at all in the display-in Fluent.

someone help me please....I am all eagerly waitin for ur replies !

Not knowing Gambit too well yet, I can think of two things.

1) In the first case (Fluent not recognizing) it might be that the side-tip face of the swirler blade is not connected. 2) In the second case, where you specify the volume as solid, did you mesh the volume? Because if you haven't Fluent won't recognize the solid volume.

I do not know how complicated your swirler blades are, but maybe -if the above- does not help you, describe how you created the blade volumes and how they are connected to the surrounding geometry.

hi tom, thanx for that suggestion. I have checked the side-tip faces and they are connected. But the problem (now) is that Gambit is creating its own new-boundary when I am tryin to export the mesh... and the new boundary being a wall completely blocking the passage of fluid at all...

so could you pls..any idea how to get rid of that default wall ?? ( I have tried to change it from a wall to interface.. but then it cant be initialized! :))

It could be, from my limited knowledge with Gambit, that you have a volume meshed inside a volume. If you did not split the surrounding volume with the inside volume then Gambit has no way to know that those two volumes have shared faces. I do believe you have to uncheck the bidirectional option and the retain option.

I don't really know if your problem has ever been solved. But before meshing with Gambit you have to take into account that fluent will read the .msh file. That means that only meshed edges and faces could get BC's.
