Default Meshing of a stirred tank reactor

I am having difficulties in meshing a stirred tank reactor with a pitched blade turbine at 45 degrees.

The tank's dimension: diameter = 300mm, height = 300mm, baffles width of 3mm.

Impeller diameter is 100mm and the impeller clearance is 100mm from the bottom.

I intend making use of multiple frame of reference(MFR) for the modelling approach.

I will appreciate every useful advice to have this done.

hi,
i am facing the same difficulty of meshing stirred tank reactor.. by this time you would have made it.. so help me if urs is solved.. i am not able to get a proper hexa mesh for the tank near the impeller domains.. the vertices are not projected to the tank surface.. instead its hanging and is messed up.. please help me out..

hey i had spent months meshing a pitchblade... finally i had to do tetra mesh for pitch blade as i dint find any tut for this...
but for a pitch blade try to use options align to vertex and edges... its a long time i did this.. sorry i dont exactly remember the tools i used.. if i get any link i will post it asap.

I hope this clarify what I need exactly.. What type of mesh do you think I should use for the walls, membranes and the Impeller?


Another problem is that I don't know what shall I define the impeller as (boundary condition) in Gambit? as well as in Fluent?

notice that the impeller is working (rotates) only during the mixing process where is no air is provided by the membranes inside, so the question is shall I define the membranes in this stage as walls or porous zones?!

I just recently modeled a stirred tank with PB turbine. of course i had a lot of problems and i wasn't able to model impeller with struc mesh. finally i decided to mesh it with un struct tetrahedral.
if your model has no baffle so you can model only one quarter of the model. it helps you to reduce computational effort in running.
anyway, i think you gotta use un struc mesh.

Hi, I am also working in STR, and I have the following issue: I did the domain in Solid Edge (the impeller, tank, etc) then in ANSYS workbench in the Design Modeler I created the “fluid” with the Fill and slice tools, and this solid (the fluid) is loaded in ICEM, I have read that is necessary to create two fluid zones in order to use MRF but I really don’t know how to do it, I have the following doubts:


How can I create fluid zones and the interior walls for the MRF?
The mesh is in the fluid or in the STR? If is in the Fluid, how can I select the reactor’s pieces separately?


How can I do a finer mesh in the bottom of the tank and less fine at the top? I’ve already tried with the “body of influence” tool but without good results.


I would really appreciate any help
