Writing to a file
I'm running an unsteady simulation. For each time step, I want Fluent to write the temperature for each point along a specified line (rake) to a file.
I know how to animate an XY plot, I know how to write the value of a point to a file, but not how to write the values of multiple points to a file. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike |
Re: Writing to a file
Dear Mike:
Go to plot menu and select XY plot. then activate wrtite to file option in this menu. Data would be written in the file you choose in the case of plotting on the window. Regards |
Re: Writing to a file
Also you can wirte data in specific points using order points option.

Re: Writing to a file
Thanks,
However, I want to write to a file at every time step, preferably the same file. The output file would be an N x T matrix, with N being the number of points on the line and T the time step. Mike |
Re: Writing to a file
I had the almost same question as Mike's except I want to save velocity x,y and vof of a surface to different files every 100 iterations.
Whenever I need these data, I can read them back to fluent with case file and continue solving. I thought this is the very basic functionality a transient simulation must have. All I find out is that fluent let u save something, but I actually want fluent to save to a native data file as I can do in the File menu but for each iteration/or multiple iterations also. Anyone help. Thanks. |
Re: Writing to a file
sorry for my last post. This option is in the File->Write->AutoSave menu.
MY BAD. Best Regards |
Re: Writing to a file
Dear Mike: You can creat the point that you want to see the values using surface -> point. Then go to solve -> monitor-> surfaces. here you can define the parameters of the point to be wtitten in the file. choose "write every" time step option and in report type I think vertex average is the best for you.
