CFD Sailing Yacht analysis

Hi Mates, I am currently involved with hydrodynamics of a sailing yacht and I am living some problems with getting reasonable drag coefficients. It comes out higher (around 3*10^-2) than it has to be, is there anyone who has solved a problem about that subject before, I want to learn which turbulence model is more appropriate for that type of problem and what more things do I have to apply on the solution?

Cheers

Re: CFD Sailing Yacht analysis

Hi!

Higher drag prediction is a common problem in cfd... Drag is induced mainly by the viscous forces (lift on the other hand by the pressure difference). What you should do is probably refine your mesh in the boundary layer where the viscosity has the most effect - use the low re approach...
