Can Fluent be used to simulate IC engine flows?

Hi there:

I am thinking to use Fluent to simulate IC engine combusiton flows. It seems most people use Star-CD, KIVA, etc for this purpose. Who can tell me if there is any problems with Fluent? Thanks a lot.

Hi

There is no problem with Fluent if you use it for IC Engine flow simulation. It is done here in our lab. However, if you are simulating the flow using combustion then its better to use CFX or Star-CD, and if you want to track the flame then KIVA is better. But if you want to simulate flow without combustion, which is not handled as better by Fluent, then its good enough.
