Creating new zone in Fluent

I want to split my fluid domain into two zones, for use in a VOF model. I need to do this within Fluent.

The new zone (liquid zone) needs to be defined as a thin liquid film on the inside of a pipe wall. I need to define this zone as a laminar zone.

Can someone please give me some advice on how to do this. I have made some attempts, but have failed to create this new zone.

Re: Creating new zone in Fluent

Hi John,

in VOF model you can define a specific zone where to place your oil film in this way:

-initialize the solution

-go to adapt>region and select the region by inputing the coordinates of the boundaries (you can choose between the shapes on the left, you can also unite more regions in order to obtain more complicated geometries-but not too complicated...), then click mark.

-initialize>patch to patch the oil (volume fraction=1) to the region you highlighted.

It is also possible to disable the turbulence equation in a fluid zone clicking the "laminar zone" button on the fluid boundary condition panel, but you have to split your fluid domain into parts and this is tipically done in gambit...

Hope this helps

Edi.

Re: Creating new zone in Fluent

Edi, thanks for the reply.

Is it possible split the fluid domain in parts within Fluent by using a register (by marking the cells which are in the liquid domain). Doing this in Gambit is quite complicated for my model.

Thanks

Re: Creating new zone in Fluent

I think it should be possible to break a cell zone based on marked region...but personally never tried. Check the manual, chapter "Modifying the grid" or something similar.

Cheers

Edi.

Limits of two fluids zone

Hello guys,
I have a vertical movement of rigid body (2d-axisymmetric), constant speed, the first pass through the air interior, then the water interior.
I used a dynamic mesh layering (only). Mesh quad is air interior, and mesh quad is water. The movement is fine until it reaches the limits of two fluids zone. Then Fuent told,'' negative volumes''.
Question:
1. Can quad and up (air) and bottom quad (water)?
2. Which zone type place between air and water (wall, interior, interface .....)?
* Or is there something else!
If there is someone to help me ......!
Thank you very much!
