Default Wing Optimisation

Hello Everyone!

I was going to ask you guys for a small favour! I am designing a race car rear wing and I am trying to optimise it for maximum downforce. Well, I have done as much as I could in optimising the design in 2D and looks like I would not be able to optimise it any more as far as my knowledge takes me. I have compared to my data to some other data and looks like I need to get atleast 25% more out of my wing!

I was wondering if any one can suggest a good book or a paper on twin element wing optimisation. I think the slot size between the two elements is the one I need to optimise to extract more downforce, however I have not been succesful in getting the right literature so far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks in advance,

Miqdad

Hi, If possible can you explain or transfer the data (if not confidential or so) I may help you out by suggesting some shapes of geometry changes. As per as books are concern, I know some Fluent/ANSA user papers (you can search out the same). Dont hesitate to write back

Hello Sachin,

Well, I would'nt say that the design is that confidential. Should I send you the IGES file or just the screen shot?

Many Thanks,

Miqdad

This is really a nice project and something that I have been wanting to do for a time now.

Kinda use Fluent as an 2-D airfoil designer with some sort of optimization algorithm built in (genetic?). Specify Clmax, Cdmin etc, and let Fluent find you the airfoil.

Right now, most initial airfoil design is done with X-foil, and although ok most of the time, I have seen some bad Clmax calculations, especially with NLF airfoils.
