applying the same setting to multiple cases

Hi folks!

I want to apply the same settings (like BC, solver, materials, grid scale,...) to a number of identical geometries. The only different is the mesh.

Is there a way to "save" or write the setting and then simple apply it to another case insteat of setting every parameter from scratch (and forgeting half of them)??

Any idea? Ralf

One possibility is going through journal files: you can write (record) the first journal and then re-load it when you want to apply your settings to a new case. More sophisticated option includes starting from an excel sheet, export an input file (basically another jou file) and then read it into fluent, I read something like this in a UGM presentation.

Hope this helps

Edi.

You can save the boundary conditions in a file with //file/wbc TUI command and read it back in a new case (mesh) with //file/rbc.

Yes, RoM is correct, the write-bc and read-bc works much better than journal files.

As a side note, V6.1 of Fluent can get a little confused with read-bc onto a basic geometry set-up unless some models are initialized. V6.2 does much better. Sometimes if you add new boundaries, and have monitors for different surfaces in your old bc file, these will need to be updated prior to iterating.

And, remember to write interpolation files of data and read these back in to new cases if you are running parameteric studies. This can save lots of computation time.
