BC's for free flows

When creating the geometry and setting the boundary conditions (BC's), what is the best one to use? I have seen symmetry, pressure far field and pressure inlet. Also I have used walls and specify the shear as zero. Is it a case of "depends on your problem?".

For example if i want to model a spray from any nozzle into the open still air, would you use symmetry or pressure far field or even pressure inlet?

Thanks
