3d problem
 

hi there, i try to model a pipe through a quadratic shaped pipe with a wall thickness. first i modeled the 3d system in gambit. therefore i formed a brick with the dimensions of the outer geometry of the pipe. then i formed a brick with the dimensions of the interior of the pipe (where the liquid will be). the i subtracted both volumes and got the pipe. then i defined another volume which fits into the free room in the pipe. this volume represents the fluid. (the inner walls are used for the solid volume as well as for the fluid volume. after meshing both volumes i defined all walls as "walls", defined pressure outlet and massflow inlet. then i defined the inner volume as "fluid" the outer one as "solid". then i loaded everything in fluent. but when i say display-> grid it only shows me the inner volume, which represents the fluid. the outer volume which is supposed to be the pipe is not there any more. can someone help me?

When you did display -> grid, were both your fluid zone and the solid zone highlighted in the options?

there was no solid zone to be highlighted. there was only a fluid zone and the inlet/outlet. the outer volume with all its "wall" faces was not there.

?????why???

When you go to display-> grid, are the outer walls in the 'Surfaces' box? Can you select them there?

I should have expanded on that last question. I am just trying to figure out if the solid part was brought into fluent or not.

If you go under define -> boundary conditions, do these other areas, walls, solid zones, etc, show up?

Also, grid-> info -> zones does this give you any indication if these areas were brought into Fluent properly?

no, the outer solid zone with its walls is not in the "display->grid" box neither in the "boundary conditions" box. so it seems that only the inner brick (representing the fluid) was importet. but why? i modeled both in gambit

That does seem odd. Have you tried defining both volumes as 'fluid' in Gambit then importing them into fluent? Then, 'if' it is imported correctly you could redefine it as a solid in fluent. That may not work though, just kinda shoting into the dark here.
