Send me an e-mail and I will send you the result of some benchmarks I did. But the conclusion was that there is little in it, unless running 64-bit Linux, 64-bit Fluent and double precision, in which case there was a significant (about 20%) performance advantage to AMD.

Hi, I compared 3 computers with two small and medium size models in window 2000 OS.

Used Hardware are Intel P-III GEON 1.0GHz 2GB RAM Intel P-IV Prescott 530 (3.0GHz) 512MB RAM AMD Athlon XP Thoroughbred-B 2.08GHz 1.0GB RAM

Used model Smll : 2D mesh : ~200,000 Medium : 3D mesh : ~1,300,000

Calculation time (k-e model + DO model + steady state)

Smll Medium Intel P-III GEON ~16.8 hours ~86 hours Intel P-IV 530 ~3.2 hours ~120hours AMD athlon XP ~6.8 hours ~155 hours

Where calculation time were come from 10,000 iteration.

Above comparison simply illustrtes that Medium case is strongy dependent on memory size. In ddition, CPU speed is major to reuce caculating time, if memory is enough.

I am not sure how much recent 64BIT system with 64Bit OS reduced calculation time. Anyway, as well as CPU clock speed, I believe L1 and L2 cach are another source to determine calculation time.

Thanks,

Hi!

I am already using a 64bit machine, and would like to know how to get the 64bit system (Windows + Flueng)?

Best regards

Rucy
