Hallo,

you can manipulate XP (32bit) to allocate 3 GB-RAM/task. 1 GB is then for XP. Who has experiences with Fluent/Gambit running such big models with a single processor? 1) Is it possible? - Or are there limitations by the c-compiler allocating more then 2 GB/task under Windows XP? 2) Is Fluent/Gambit running stable with such big tasks?

Regards Peter

I use Fluent on 4gb RAM Machine, but with two Xeon processors. I can say that the memory management is largely limited. From my experience Fluent would not run when allocated slightly more than 1.2 gb per process. I use 3 mln cell grid and have to enable hyper threading to simulate 4 processor machine to distribute RAM into smaller chunks. On 2 processors, Fluent gives me out of memory errors.

Hi there!

I use not Fluent but other software and faces same problem. I have 2 xeon and 4 gb ram, but limit for 1 cpun seems to be around 1.2 gb as already mentionend. I am running under win 2000 and think this problem is more related to ms windows?

You should check if windows XP doesn't limit the memory allocation to Fluent. More info: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system...AE/PAEmem.mspx Best regards

Hi

We use Fluent with 5 Intel-IV processors, one as master and four as slave. All of them have 2GB of memory and they work fine, however, the OS is Linux and not windows. Windows cannot handle such large simulations. Fluent can but with Unix based OSs.
