I am beginning to work with FLUENT and I would like to know how to have FLUENT write the results to an output file at different timesteps (not just at the end of the simulation)? Thank you.

Thank you. The output file is a *.dat file, but it produces something that is not readable in other programs. Do you know how to get a file that could be read in a program like Matlab?

ohhh thats a good point...
write-> profile and then select one (or more) surfaces, that represent your grid (often called "default.interior" or something...) Than you can select the values you want to save (velocities, temperatures,...). Fluent writes now a file, were first comes all x values of the cells, then y values, z values, and then the values you want to be written at each cell. All in one coulum... There is a matlab programm ... Hope it helps Ralf look at http://www.cfd-online.com/Forum/flue...cgi?read=29477 |

Ralf, Thanks for the info and code, but it seems that the profile is written at the last iterated timestep of the simulation. I would like the data at each timestep. Do you know how to do this?

I think you can use the autosave to save the dat files . Then open the dat files of one given timestep to export the profile you want.
