DES steps

Could someone briefly outline the steps in DES simulations? I started with a SA model and then switched to DES. But even though it is transient, the results look the same as with steady state SA model. Also do we need to superimpose the fluctuating velocity for DES as we do for LES simulations in FLUENT?
