CD calculation

Hi,

I'm calculating the drag past 2D circular and elliptical cylinders. I'm not very sure about the reference values I'm using. As for the frontal area, I'm using the diameter of the cylinder since the depth is unity. I'm using the diameter also for the length. For the velocity I'm using the free stream velocity. Are these values ok?

Re: CD calculation

Yes, but you have to make sure P, rho, and T are properly set as well. To make sure your flow reference values (V, P, rho, T) are based on your inlet, you can select your inlet from in the "Compute From" drop down box. Also, make sure your depth is 1. The default value is 1m, so if you're working in different units you have to change that to be unity in your unit system.

Hope this helps, and good luck, Jason

Dear Jason, Thanks a lot. What you said is working for the cylinder now. I hope it works when I go to ellipses of high aspect ratios since I used to have problems with those calculations. Thanks again.
