Default Initial values using DAT file

I am calculating a burner. To have an more or less accurate flow inside the burner as initial condition, I let run the burner cold (no combustion model applied). I stored this solution as XXX_cold.dat

Now I start calculating the hot flow with my CAS file XXX_hot.cas and the initial values from XXX_cold.dat on our LINUX cluster.

Why does Fluent at the end of the run save the results in XXX_cold.dat? Isn't this strange if it was actually doing hot calculations? I don't want to have my initial values in XXX_cold.dat overwritten, as I still need them for other runs!

Fluent writes to where you tell it to. If you're doing a File->Write, then the default is going to be based on the last file read, but you can change that by just typing the correct name. If you're running from a batch script, then double check your batch script, and if there's no filename given when writing a case or data, then it's always going to go to the default of the last file read. If you've got autosave on, double check your autosave options for filename.

Hope this helps, and good luck, Jason

Thank's. I'll check our batch script then. Hope this helps, because I'd like to use my original DAT file for other configurations as well.

You should be able to as long as the mesh is consistent for the different configurations. Otherwise you're going to have to make an interpolation file (File->Interpolate) from the base case, and then interpolate that onto the other configurations.

Hope this helps, and good luck, Jason
