Residence time calculation

Hi all,

How do I get the residence times in Fluent? I'm not injecting any particls per se into the flow. I just want to know how long the fluid remains inisde my geometry and for how long they stay in each zone.

Thanks.

Hi Thomas,

I didn't find the residence time option in the COLORED BY menu.

Where can I find it?

Thanks.

Re: Residence time calculation

Try step by step in particle tracking, I believe this could give you the residence time. Also see whether it is one way or two way coupling, it will give slight difference in result. Good luck.

Re: Residence time calculation

Hi,

The particle tracking panel has the option for plotting/ writing to file the residence time values, but somehow I'm unable to activate the DISPLAY or WRITE buttons. It's always gray (inactive), no matter what I tried. How do I activate this?

As I said before, I do not have any injected particles in my flow stream.

Thanks.

Re: Residence time calculation

The Display button of the Particle Tracks window will not work until you have selected a Injection in the "Release from Injections" - box( which is only possible if you have configured at least one injection. And you need some Iterations as well to see anithing) Hope, this helps a little,

Alex
