My university wants to by a PC for running Fluent and I have to decide the PC features. Can you give me an advice? Obviously I have to limit the cost without reducing too much performances. Thanks a lot. Silvia

I have just got a 8GB 690 with RedHat on it and I am very impressed. Word of warning: don't cheap out on the graphics card.

I am in the UK. On the UK Dell website it was claimed that the price would be reduced by £440 (around $800 US) if you go for a 128 nVidia. I had one of those in my old Linux box and it all worked fine so plumped for it. I am now having some problems with my new PC that I suspect are graphics card related and wished I had gone for the one up. Just thought I would pass the message on to save Silvia, or others, potentially making similar mistake. Performance wise, however, my Dell 690* is awesome compared to my old box.

(*but is 4x the price and two years newer, so a direct comparison is probably not appropriate.)
