hi ,

when i split my rectangle geometry by a face i have used two options: 1-to use biderctional(retain off, connected on) you will get two volumes connected bientity 2-do not use biderctional(retain off, connected on) , you will get two volumes connected my question : what is the difference between connected and connected bientity ? best regards

If the face you're using to split the rectangle is completely within the rectangle, then there shouldn't be any difference (assuming retain was off and connected was on for both methods). Bidirectional splits one face with a splitting face... and whatever wasn't used of the splitting face is then left as a separate face, but since your splitting face is completely within your main face, there is nothing left over to leave as a separate face...

If the splitting geometry protrudes from the rectangle, that's when you'll see the difference. If two faces overlap (faces A and B) and you split A with B with the bidirectional option off (connected on, retain off), then the part of B that is not within A will simply disappear. If you do the same thing with the bidirectional option on then the portion of B that is not within A will become its own face.

Example (or an attempt at one using text at least...)

/ ( / )

where / / is face A and ( ) is face B

Splitting with the bidirectional option off give you:

/ ( /

Where / ( is one face and ( / is a different face

Splitting with the bidirectional option on gives you:

/ ( / )

Where / ( is one face and ( / is a different face, and / ) is a different face still...

Kind of awkward trying to show it with symbols, but if you look in the Gambit users manual, there's a better picture using actual geometry.

Hope this helps, and good luck, Jason
