problem with reading the .dat file, error object:#f

Hello, During reading in the Fluent the .cas and .dat files I have met with an error:

"Error: Invalid section id: Error Object: #f".

That error doesn't appear when I have read only .cas file. So I'm sure that the problem appears only when I am trying to read the .dat file. The message in the error seems to concern the version of Fluent. However, if it works (3d) properly for the .cas file, why I am not able to read the .dat file. Is anybody who meets with a similar problem? Thank you in advance for all suggestions. Paulina

Sounds like there was a change in your case. A face was split, or merged, or renamed... or you have dynamic mesh and the mesh is different, and the data file was saved, but not the case file. Now your case and your data files don't match.

I really don't know what the fix is though... if you can re-create what geometry changes you made that is now in the data file so that the two files match again, then you should be able to read the data again.

Good luck, Jason

Hello Jason,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately such a responde I was expected that something was changed in .cas file and now the file doesn't match with the .dat file. The problem is that I was asked to export some data from files, so I didn't run those simulation by my own. I am involved in different project, however someone resign and the sponsors of the second project ask me for help. I have tried even to read both files in UNIX system, however without any luck. Do you know any other way how to open those files? Paulina

I think Jason is right. You did not change but the person who saved those files did not save the case and data file together. So there is definitely something different between the case and data file. I am afraid you have to run the model again unless you find the corresponding case file.

Hi Mizan,

Thank you for your reply. Probably there is no other option and I will have to run the .cas file again. I have additional checked few other posibility but without any positive results. The problem is that simulations are very time consuming, but that is live! Have a nice evening. Paulina

You could have save some time by interpolating the data if you could read the data file but you cant read the data file, thats a big problem. Sorry that you have to run again. Thats happen when you work with other peoples previous work, i have that experience.

Hi,

The problem is that I don't need those files and data to my work, however, other people involved in that project ask me for help. So I really would like to help because I know how difficult is to start from the beginning. Now, I only need fast server and a little time to run simulations. Once again thank you for your interested and reply. Paulina
