Default Heat conduction between contacting solid materials

Hi all,

I have a question on modelling heat conduction between two contacting solid materials. When I create the geometry using Gambit, how do I specify that the two entities are contacting?

Thanks a lot,

Ken

You have to make a face separating the two solids. You can assign this interior common face as an interior boundary. The two solids should be 2 separate volumes and two different solid zones should be assigned to each volume. This makes an assumption that the contact is a perfect contact.

Thank you for answering my question. But if I create two blocks, do I put them together by "Unite" or by "Connect" contacting faces? Do those two operations result in a face with the same properties? Thanks.

If you unite two adjacent volumes sharing a common face, the face will be merged in and deleted, resulting only one volume.

You have to have the two volumes connected, not united.

You can try , creating one volume, then splitting the volume into two using a face (create a large face and move it to required position) , with the connected option turned on. This will create two connected volumes. Now yuo can define the two volumes, as different fluids and do the simulation.

Sujith,

You mentioned that "Now yuo can define the two volumes, as different fluids and do the simulation..."

Here,I am very interested in how to define different fluids (say, air and oil) for different volumes in Fluent solver environment. Does Fluent have this capability to perform this kind of simulation task with two fluids in differnt zones?
