FModellign a Fan Using the Disc Actuator Model

Dear Fluent Users,

I have been dabbling with the disc actuator model in Fluent V6.3.26.

The idea is to try to model the properties of helicopter rotors and ducted fans.

If I only know the thrust that the fan or rotor is producing and the tip velocity, what is the best way to implement the disc actuator model in Fluent?

Regards,

Saif

Dear Saif, I am dealing with a similar problem to model propeller with an actuator.

Did you find how to go about it. ie what boundary conditions to use ?

Re: FModellign a Fan Using the Disc Actuator Model

dear saif, i already install fluent 6.3.21 a few days ago, a prototype downloaded version but i cannot find the actuator disk model. could you tell me how to get it. for your information, i am doing a helicopter simulation both in hovering and forward flight using fluent 6.2, by using both mrf and smm.

i am very interested in actuator disk model because both mrf and smm are near to blade element theory, where the effect of flow as an actuator disk cannot be modeled.

tq.

Re: FModellign a Fan Using the Disc Actuator Model

dear saif,thanks for the reply.

so actuator disc model in fluent is a fan model. i thought it is a new feature in fluent 6.3.

as far as i'm concerned, we must write a udf function to define axial and radial flow through the fan. it is because the induced velocity and wakes generated by main rotor varies with azimuth angle of the helicopter. mrf-moving reference frame model smm-sliding mesh model

tq

Dear hafiz, Can you tell me about writing the udf function to define axial and radial flow through the fan??
Now I try to make actuator disk in fluent.
Thank you.
