Wall Shadows

Hello,
Something strange is happening to me mesh whilst reading into Fluent. I had 3 walls, double sided. When the mesh was read into Fluent it made shadows of all of these as it is supposed to. In the Boundary conditions these came up as coupled, all was fine and dandy. Now I have added another wall so I'd expect to get a shadow for each like before but something ODD is happening to the fourth wall. I get this message on Fluent. Note: Separating wall zone 4 into Zone 4 and 1 Partition 4 > partition (4) and partition 4.001 (1) Partition is the name I have given to the Walls. And it creates a shadow for Partition wall 4. So I am getting 4 walls (as set by me) 4 shadows (as is meant to be) and one extra Partition 4.001 ( an extra zone created by FLUENT) Why is this happening? I think it is affecting my results somehow. Thanks. |

Fluent sometimes does this if the walls are physically separated from each other. |

Hi Joe,
Thanks for your reply. So you mean there is nothing wrong? Why has it not done this for the other 3 walls. And what do you mean exactly when you say if the walls are physically separated from each other? Thanks. My simulation time for 3 walls was only about 5-10 mins but with this fourth wall added the time has shot up to about one hour. Thanks |

Oh and also when I set the boundary conditions on Fluent, all the walls are coupled so when I change the wall thickness it automatically changes this on the corresponding wall shadows. But what about this extra wall 4 zone it has created, what should I set the boundary to, the coupled option does not appear for this one.
Thanks |

There is something wrong with the mesh. It happens because you probably do not have mesh on one side of this 4th wall. In other words if this wall consists of several faces, some of the faces do not have mesh on one side and it separate those zones.
